Ruby Gilbert is thirteen years old and she has a deadly secret. Even her best friend Davey does not know the truth.
The Witch Wolves have come to Bascome valley, bringing terror in the night and kidnapping unwary children. Strange lights have been seen up in old East wing of Colby hall and the servants are disappearing at an alarming rate. The ruthless landowner, Josia Colby, is driving the people from their farms and the only help for the folk of Bascome Valley is the mysterious highwayman, Jack Shadow. But when Jack Shadow is forced into hiding it is left to Ruby and Davey to discover the true nature of the unfolding evil. They must risk everything to save their village and battle the dark magic unleashed against them.
The story is a magical fantasy set in Cornwall in the year 1760. The book has been written to appeal to readers of all ages and is best suited to those aged nine and over. It is the first in the series entitled The Gates of Faerie.
